Francisco van Benthum 2009 A/W SEASON THEME
For his Fall-Winter 2009-2010 collection, Francisco van Benthum takes inspiration from the ritual clothes of priests, cardinals, bishops and choirboys. The collection blends a pinch of purity with van Benthum's abstract and elegant style. Van Benthum is intrigued by the aesthetic abstractness of the elongated shapes and the rigid high closed silhouette with the familiar black and white collar. The long black monk's-habit, the stand-up collar shirt and the layered silhouette are translated into an elegant and sharp collection.
Collection FW 2009-2010 is divided in three parts: an outspoken fashion part, a more formal classic part and a section with luxurious eveningwear. The colours are sober and rigid: blacks with white, dark navy, harsh fuchsia and red set the atmosphere. The fabric ranges from lightweight nylon and silk, coated wools to sharp cottons.
The collection includes sharp coats, a series of suits from oversized to body conscious, fluent silk tops and pressed-pleated pants. The collection is complemented by an exclusive series of jewellery.

His vision as a designer is clearly seen in his elegant men’s collections that take the traditional menswear wardrobe as a starting point. Within the outline of the traditional menswear silhouette Van Benthum shifts proportions and adds altered elements based on male stereotypes.
Both press and buyers showed a strong interest in Van Benthum’s previous presentations. His fully featured collections including formal and casual wear and a range of accessories and shoes have been warmly received.
With many sales points in The Netherlands Francisco van Benthum is currently developing his label on an international level. His first own concept store ‘NL = New Luxury’ was opened in January 2008 in Amsterdam.
