Q1. What was the inspiration for this collection?

INOSCULATION

The inosculation of every living creature is directly connected with its life.
The inosculation signifies new born of genetic trait to microorganism and survival tactic securing the diversity to non-generative functioned microorganism.
In the barren land, the organisms strengthen the immunity through the inosculation.
The newly produced factors increases geometrically with constant specialization.
In fact, the evolution in Nature is the history of hybridism, and the main point of it is not the inosculation itself, but the creativity in its process.

The inosculation of A + B makes possible the variety of C.
This combination enables us the changes which facilitate new creation.
It is still valid in Design.The fixed idea cannot be survivable for good.
The wriggling, rawish, untreated and alive design will be inosculated in our senses and desires of novelty. Inosculation of well-made structure vs deconstructed structure
Two button gray tailored wool jacket is combined with two gray pockets on the chest and the waist inspired by work and denim. Black jacket uniting two different fabric; wool and nylon. On that two pockets overlapped upright black pocket and slightly skewed smaller pocket. 3 button gray raglan coat has voluminous flap pocket in its waist. The white shirt is fusing the whole front of slender grid pattern and is piled up with two pockets; white upright pocket and light blue grid pattern skewed pocket on the chest. White shirt is interjected with beige cupro square that seems to come from left under the pocket on the chest or is laid over with raw cutter brown thin grid pattern square. Coral knit is combined with well strutted brown v zone and raw cutter arm hole.


Q2. Where was the show/presentation held?

The 2011 fw Presentation was held in Paris first on Jan, and the Presentation Show will be held in Seoul during Seoul Fashion Week on the 28th Mar. 2011.


Q3. What sort of fabrics did you use?

Mostly fine twill wool has combined with different fabrics or different weight of wool.


Q4. What colors were important for this season?

There are point color; Coral, Yellow Ochre, Blue in the middle of tone-on-tone color shades.


Q5. Tell us about the silhouette.

A shoulder of tailored jacket is softened with un padded shoulder and the waist raised up to overemphasize and is worn with wide leg trouser. Oversize coats, mid length coats are paired with slim or regular fit trousers. Knits and shirts which are white, black, neutrals and even point colors; blue yellow or coral are shown the most sharply as a solo or coordinated with inside of jackets or coats. Front centroid black twill coat from the last season is set with rolled up oversize black trouser so that it completed all black look.


Q6. Do you have a favorite piece in the collection?

Fine twill wool coat which is patched shrunken nylon on the whole front.


Q7. What is your design process?

It takes 6 months til the moment of the presentation to developing designs and adjusting the wearability, and the finishing which Cy Choi always concerns.


Q8. Is there any news of your brand?

Cy Choi 2011 FW collection participates in Seoul Fashion Week after the Cy Choi Exhibition in Oct, 2010.

Chul Yong Choi

Chul-Yong CHOI was born in 1972.
He started to study fine art and fashion design at the Hongik University in Seoul and continued fashion design at Domus Academy in Milan Italy.

Right after his graduation he had lived in Milan and worked as a fashion designer and art director both in Italy and Korea.
During this period he launched many new lines and built up the companies's brand identity.
Moreover he had big interest on communication part so that he made unconventional ideas for visual communication.

Finally he launched his namesake brand CY CHOI for menswear in Paris 2009.
In the CY CHOI it is melted his values that agonizes the possibility of transformation between art and design and seeks after visualizing the invisibleness with his own mimesis from the past.

Brand philosophy

Boundary; between this and that

The boundary is to differentiate the objects from two exclusive lines. But in a different viewpoint this thin lines being microscopically disassembled from both attribution accomplish various layers. Like a countless spectrum with black and white boundary. Potential disassembled line is no longer exclusive attribute but symmetrize and harmonize. Standing above the boundary contiguity of an object we will focus on the positive aspects.
