Q1. What was the inspiration for this collection?

This season's title was „Dust and decay".
We were inspired by blurry surfaces. Material that sprouts from a chaotic working situation. This fuzziness also can be found in uncleared relationships.
This seems kind of antipodal to conventional design concepts.
But analyzing these accidental remains we found a richness which is fragile and ephemeral. And also decadent.

Q2. What sort of fabrics did you use?

We used fulled wool, similar to loden. This organic looking fabric was handdyed in shades of blueish and brownish grey. Contrasted with fine shiny silk. Also we used black leather and wool fabrics.
Additional there was terry cloth fabric in grey. We just called it grey towel.
Finally the soft handdyed jerseys, we are known for.

Q3. What colors were important for this season?

We have our own color moods, starting with classical black in different structures, mixed with different shades of grey. Also some shades of rusty brown and blue greys.
Only one contrast of moss green silk.

Q4. Tell us about the silhouette.

There are special wide pants almost like skirts.
And different shapes of coats. Trench coats and long blazers which are tight and classical. And the trapez coat, which is boxy and exaggerated.
We have also drapings and hooded jackets with slim sleeves.
And some robe dresses that have a relaxed rectangle fit, that can be worn with a belt.

Q5. Do you have a favorite piece in the collection?

Ben's favourite pieces are the „Abdul pants". Some skirt pants which are comfortable and androgynous.

Q6. What is your design process?

It is refining and reinventing the own patterns.
Combining it with new fabrics and surfaces.
And of course a journey through the world of possibilities,trying out new shapes.
But always wearable.

Q7. Is there any news of your brand?

We are moving with our Berlin shop to a new address. More central.

Julia Heuse and Ben Klunker

Julia Heuse and Ben Klunker met as students at the prestigious Berlin design school ESMOD and founded their eponymous fashion label on graduating in 2006.

The collaboration proves that two minds are often better than one; they channel their respective influences into a menswear and womenswear label that continues to strike a balance between commercial and conceptual classic and avant-garde and mixes glamour with a unique Berlin street style.

The interaction of abstract and conceptual ideas between the designers is symbiotic and fuels designs that both challenge conventionality – such as boxy oversized cuts or draped fabrics in both their designs for women and men - but importantly their creations are also flattering. Many of the materials they use have been tie-dyed bleached moon-washed or aged to create different effects.

The label was born in the backroom of Ben’s art gallery in Berlin’s bustling art district Mitte and the space has since developed into an atelier to house the burgeoning label. Julia and Ben also have a store on Torstrasse and sell globally.
