Q1. What was the inspiration for this collection?

UNLOVEABLE

menswear focuses on strong personalities and the different styles they embody by offering a timeless mens wardrobe that draws its inspiration from the 1970's.

The collection begins with casual styles inspired by movies such as Ferris Bueller's Day off and Dazed and Confused : heavy striped knitwear, classic chinos and recycled fibre tops are all signature S2A pieces while new outerwear such as a heavy padded parka and a wool pea coat complete the retro «collegian» look.

Influenced by skaters and tastemakers, the collection then takes a darker, more artistic twist with overdyed shirts, slim fit denims and tough boots. Heavy officer coats, a wool cape, fedora hats and silk scarves also embrace this very masculine yet artistic look.

Finally, the collection features flawless formalwear pieces with velvet corduroy suits, classic jackets and a stunning silk and mohair tuxedo with S2A's red lining signature. For our trademark coats, adorned with retro detailing, khaki, burgundy and aquamarine are the key colours.

In the late 90’s Surface To Air consisted of a group of friends who wanted to work on projects they liked. Year after year the team has grown into multidisciplinary companies spanning across creative domains such as fashion graphics photography design music films… Today each company is developping its own activity but always within the Surface To Air vision.

SURFACE TO AIR IS :

SURFACE TO AIR COLLECTION - Surface To Air is a ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories collection for men, women, and from January 2009 also for kids. Every season we also develop special collaborations with people from different fields (artist, designers, and musician’s) who are linked to Surface To Air. The collections are now distributed in Surface To Air’s own stores (Paris, Sao Paulo, and soon in Los Angeles) and in more than 200 stores around the world (Barneys, Le Bon Marché, Selfridges, Browns Focus, Hejfina, Park, Fred Segal, Ron Herman, Le Printemps, etc...)

SURFACE TO AIR AGENCY - Surface To Air creative direction and consultancy studio is a group of Art Directors operating worldwide in high end fashion, art and luxury markets. The projects are wide and varied, but always with the Surface To Air touch (Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, L’Oreal Luxe, French Ministry of Culture, Tsumori Chisato, EMI, Sony, Chromeo, Scenario Rock, Cacharel,Loveless…) The agency is present in Paris, Sao Paulo, and New York City.

SURFACE TO AIR FILM - Surface To Air film consists of the cousins Jeremie Rozan & Martial Schmeltz. Each with their own culture, they have developped together a particular style that we recognize in their commercials, and music videos (Louis Vuitton, Sony, Justice, Diesel, Scenario Rock, The Streets, Midnight Juggernauts,...). The promo for Justice vs Simian’s indie disco hit ‘We Are Your Friends’ won the Best Video prize at the MTV Europe Awards. A string of others awards followed.

RENDEZ-VOUS - Launched in 2004, Rendez-Vous the contemporary fashion tradeshow gathers 500 selected designers & brands and 10 000 international buyers and press a year. Rendez-Vous Paris and Rendez-Vous NYC take place during every Fashion Week in beautiful and central venues of the capitals. Rendez-Vous has developped strong partnerships and collaborations with Andam fashion award, Unit F, Festival des arts de la mode d’Hyères, Seoul fashion center in Korea, Fashion Fringe in London, Delhi Fashion Week etc. More than a show, Rendez-Vous proposes the faces of contemporary fashion. In 2009, Rendez-Vous presents LENEWBLACK.com, the first contemporary fashion online tradeshow.

Permanent and global, LENEWBLACK.com facilitates the exchange between brands and buyers, before during and after the major world fashion weeks and equally allows buyers to order groundbreaking contemporary brands from the comfort of their office or hotel. The expertise of RE NDEZ-VOU S guarantee the quality of the selection to the buyers, and the quality of the network to the brands using this revolutionary new tool.
