THE ELEVENTH HOUR 2011 SPRING/SUMMER WOMEN'S COLLECTION

THE ELEVENTH HOUR 2011 SPRING/SUMMER SEASON - BRAND Q&A

Q1. Please outline your concept for SS11 and the reasons behind it.

The main inspiration behind the SS11 collection was drawn from the natural phenomenon of the glaciers, particularly the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand. I looked at the natural landscapes and formations of glaciers and used this as a starting point for the colour palette and silhouette for the collection. Details such as cut out panels, pleats and draped hems were combined with soft, fluid fabrics to reflect the formations of the icy glacier crevasses and caves.

Q2. For this season, what fabrics are you paying attention to?

With this collection, natural fabrics such as silk georgette, silk crepe and cotton voile were mixed with beautiful tencel and soft bamboo jersey.

Q3. What role does color play in your SS11 collection?

Colour always plays an important role in all of my collections. For this season, the colour palette reflected the clean, crisp colours of the glaciers. I used a combination of glacier blues, ivory, dusk, stone and black.

Q4. Please choose 3 key items from the collection and outline why you chose them.

Moulin Cut Out Jacket - This is my favourite piece in the collection. I just love the draped hem on the jacket. It's a great twist to a wardrobe staple.

Glacier Twist Back Dress - I like the subtle detailing of the dress - the twisted back panel along with the mix of textures and fabric on the dress.

Glacier Gathered Vest - Multiple layers of the sheer silk cotton are draped and gathered to reflect the formations of a glacier. I like the simple, architectural shape of this garment.

Q5. Please tell us what things are important to you when thinking of a new design.

I always consider the craftsmanship of a garment - how it is constructed, inside and out. I want someone to take off one of my garments and see that everything has a thought process to it.

THE ELEVENTH HOUR

Designer

Anne Tu

“The Eleventh Hour aesthetic can be described as architectural. Intricate shoulder pleats look as never ending as the Scalinata stairs of Rome, translucent panels as irregular as the windows of a Frank Lloyd Wright home and elongated collars as sharp as the Empire State Building.”

Founded by Sydney-based designer Anne Tu, The Eleventh Hour is a label for those who appreciate quiet details, clean lines, luxurious fabrics and precise tailoring.

Anne comes with extensive design experience. She began her career in fashion as an assistant designer for Kirrily Johnston for three years before heading overseas to work in London and Paris with international minimalist experts, Preen. She returned to Australia in 2009 to launch a label she can determinedly call her own.

The Eleventh Hour designs are almost architectural. With intricate shoulder pleats, translucent panels and elongated collars, they embody a carefully balanced equation of functional lines and graceful, delicate details.

The Eleventh Hour launched in October of 2010 with a Resort collection entitled Modern Romance. The simplicity, precision and thoughtful intricate detailing balanced with an understated colour palette emanates a certainty rare in other emerging brands.
The Eleventh Hour explores pleated, skillfully draped and expertly cut separates, dresses and gowns presented in a restrained colour palette of sand, dusty pink, black and white.

The collection is a startling mature assembly. Delicate silk crepe and chiffon, cotton voile and a luxurious soft jersey form the basis of a collection of structured cuts with an emphasis on texture and detail.

A pastel sleeveless shirtdress is toughened up with a silk razor sharp elongated collar, transparent panelling and precise pleating, while a floor length sand coloured gown is given medieval armour in the shape of delicate silk frills. Every fold, drape and panel is as delicate, foreign and as beautiful as the anatomy of deep-sea amoeba.

The Eleventh Hour collections are made in Australia, where Anne ensures flawless detailing, smoothed bound edges, french seams and careful craftsmanship makes each piece beautiful, both inside and out.
